The “Teaching for Sustainability” work (this blog, the events we run, the resources we develop, and much more) is coordinated by Terese Thoni, the education coordinator at the Lund University Sustainability Forum, together with colleagues from the Division of Higher Education Development and the Centre for Engineering Education. We organise ourselves in the following groups:
- Working Group: This is the group that engages in operational planning, with meetings at least every month (currently, Terese, Steven, Karin, and Mirjam are in this group, but we welcome anyone else who wants to get engaged here!).
- Task Force: Receives information and provides input that guides the work of the working group, with meetings at least once per semester. A representative (or several) from every Faculty is invited to join the Task Force (Get in touch if you would like to join!)!
On February 13th, the Task Force met for updates, feedback and general discussions. We talked about, among other topics,
- Outreach: We now have a website (https://www.ahu.lu.se/en/resources/teaching-for-sustainability/), this blog, and a Teams team to share what we are doing. You are welcome to explore any and all of these resources, and to join the Teams team (where you of course get to decide yourself how many notifications you would like to receive…)
- Events: There are a bunch of events planned for the spring semester!
- A meeting on serious games for teachers who want to discuss their own and others’ experiences (on 29.2.2024, sign up here https://teachingsustainability.blogg.lu.se/2024/01/18/teaching-for-sustainability-follow-up-event-on-serious-games-29-february-2024-0930-1100/),
- We will soon advertise a seminar on Sustainability Competencies, and
- There will be the opportunity to learn from teachers taking the LTH course on Teaching for Sustainability (https://teachingsustainability.blogg.lu.se/2024/01/22/pedagogical-course-at-cee-teaching-for-sustainability/), when participants present their projects at the last day of that course on the afternoon of 4.6.2024.
- We also discussed ideas for future events (for example, Mirjam is interested in organising something along the lines of “Teaching for sustainability without necessarily teaching about sustainability”), and we welcome your suggestions here!
- Courses:
- The HEDS course (https://www.ahu.lu.se/en/courses/courses-in-higher-education-teaching-and-learning/courses-spring-2024/higher-education-didactics-for-sustainability/) is currently underway, with 68 participants from 7 countries worldwide, including 18 participants from Lund University and Steven and Terese as facilitators!
- The CEE course (https://teachingsustainability.blogg.lu.se/2024/01/22/pedagogical-course-at-cee-teaching-for-sustainability/) is starting next month, applications are still open!
- We will very soon advertise the fall course program!
- LUTL24: The Lund University Teaching and Learning conference 2024 (https://www.ahu.lu.se/en/educational-development/lutl-2024/) has the overarching theme of “connecting teachers — changing from within”, which we think fits perfectly with our idea of creating a community of teachers that are interested in sustainability. So we are preparing different contributions there!
- We also discussed needs that teachers in the different faculties experience related to their efforts in teaching for sustainability. Here we also welcome your input — what can we do to make your life easier? What topics for seminars would you suggest? What resources would you hope we provide?
As always: If you would like to get in touch, we would love for you to contact us and join us in any and all of our efforts! 🙂
