The IIIEE at Lund University is launching a new open online course (MOOC): “Transformative Education: Teaching for Agency & Resilience”. This new course aims to strengthen educators’ competences and skills for addressing climate anxiety and places imagination, values, and collective agency at the heart of the learning experience. This is another potential resource for educators integrating sustainability into their courses, but concerned about how to deal with potential anxieties and other emotions (also see some of our past blog posts on issues like handling eco-emotions and climate anxiety).

The new course explores how educators can foster climate resilience, regeneration, and transformative learning in response to today’s sustainability challenges. It begins by introducing the concepts of climate resilience and regeneration and examining how learning environments can support meaningful engagement with climate issues. Participants then explore key sustainability competences through both the European GreenComp framework and the CLARITY competence framework, with a particular focus on developing learners’ resilience, sense of connection, and capacity to engage constructively with uncertain futures. In the final module, the course translates these ideas into practice through examples of transformative learning journeys, educational tools, and expert reflections that demonstrate how sustainability competences can be cultivated in diverse educational settings.
Throughout, the course introduces resources developed through the CLARITY Erasmus+ project (2023–2026), funded by the European Union, bringing together insights from psychology, pedagogy, the arts and sustainability science. Participation in the course is free of charge and you can check out the course and enrol here. You can also check out more about the CLARITY project here.
